Evangel Tabernacle United Holy Church
In the year 1950, when the small village named Melrose was nestled in the cane fields, a number of open-air meetings were conducted by Evangelist Alonza Roach. From this effort, some forty persons were saved and committed their lives to God and His service. After acquiring a house which was later remodeled into a church, the group immediately became affiliated to the UHCA. The church grew, ministering to the spiritual needs of this growing community. At one point, Elder Kenneth Harewood served as pastor of both this and the Mount Zion Church at the same time.
Elder Harewood was succeeded by Elder FitzGerald Kirton whose role in the history of this church was significant. He was the man God used to acquire the next building that Evangel Tabernacle would call a place of worship. In December 1986, the membership proudly marched into their new wall edifice. On October 01, 1989 Pastor (now Bishop) Fitz Herbert Kirton, son of Elder FitzGerald Kirton, took over pastoral duties at the church. Today, in what is now a bustling community; this church is committed more than ever to reaching the lost and bringing the good news of Jesus to our nation.
